Customs Seize N1.9bn Hard Drugs, Expired Flour For Seme Border

Nigeria Customs Service, Seme Area Command don announce say dem seize contraband goods worth N1.99 billion between September 1 and October 9, 2025, for di Lagos–Abidjan Corridor. Di Area Controller, Wale Adenuga, talk dis one on Thursday during him first press briefing for Seme Border. Among wetin dem seize na 10,000 bags of expired flour from Egypt worth N1.2bn, wey dem carry inside five trucks. Adenuga warn say di flour fit cause infection, food poison and serious health wahala if e enter Nigerian market. Dem also intercept 1,104 parcels of cannabis sativa, 120 packs of tramadol, and hand over two suspects to NDLEA. Other seized items include 2,043 bags of foreign rice, 150 bales of used clothes, 169 bottles of codeine cough syrup, and five used vehicles.

Adenuga describe smuggling as economic sabotage wey dey deny Nigeria revenue and put public health at risk. He talk say di Command dey serious to stop smugglers and support legal business. He also reveal say Seme Customs facilitate non-oil exports of 53,989.46 metric tonnes of goods worth N7.9bn, with N39.8m collected under di Nigerian Export Supervision Scheme. Dem generate N1.5bn revenue in September, up from N531.4m in August, a 182% increase. Di CAC thank Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, Badagry, for support in intercepting smuggled rice through waterways. He say dem go continue to balance revenue generation, trade support, and national security using better tech and intelligence.
