ASUU Strike: NLC Blast FG No-Work-No-Pay Policy, Stand Gidigba With Union

ASUU don declare two-week warning strike wey go start from October 13 as dem dey fight government over work condition for lecturers, 2009 FGN-ASUU agreement, unpaid salaries wey government dey hold, plus better funding for public universities. For one statement, NLC President Joe Ajaero talk say ASUU strike na direct result of government wey no want respect di agreements wey dem reach with lecturers. E add say government no dey try settle di matter well but dey use “No Work, No Pay” threat wey no make sense. According to am, di problem na government breach contract, no be scholars fault. NLC declare say dem dey full support ASUU and all other tertiary education unions.

Ajaero beg Federal Government make e stop all di threat and use di two-week strike period to fix di real issues wey dey ASUU agreement. E talk say NLC dey worry as public education system for Nigeria dey suffer because government no dey fund am well and no dey keep their promise. E explain say lecturers ready to work but government no dey gimme chance as dem dey run from dia own agreement. E add say dis fight no be only about one union but na about better future for Nigeria as public education dey weaken, making children of poor people suffer while rich children dey study abroad or for private schools. NLC talk say dem go hold emergency meeting with tertiary education unions to plan how to take handle government and warn say if government no respond after two weeks, dem no go gree again. “Na make government respect agreement or face whole Nigerian workforce united power,” NLC talk.
