Di Federal High Court wey dey Abuja don fix November 20 to deliver judgment for di terrorism trial of Nnamdi Kanu, di leader of di proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Justice James Omotosho announce di date on Friday after Kanu insist say e no go defend himself under wetin e call a “repealed law.” Di judge talk say di court don already give am enough chance under Section 36 of di constitution to open im defence but Kanu refuse to cooperate, so e don waive di right to defend himself. Earlier on Friday, di court still give am one hour to file any document wey e say e need, but nothing change.
Kanu don face di Nigerian government since 2015 on top seven charges mostly related to terrorism and violent secessionist campaign for Biafra independence. Even though di prosecution don close dia case since June with five witnesses, Kanu talk say no valid evidence dey against am. Im file “no-case submission,” but di judge reject am for September, order am to enter defence. After that, Kanu sack im lawyers and talk say e go defend himself but still dey insist say di charges no valid because dem base on old terrorism law wey don expire. Despite several adjournments, di judge finally fix di matter for judgment, saying Kanu don use all di chances wey court give am.
