FG Go Add Sign Language Inside Basic School Curriculum

Di Federal Government don announce new policy wey go make sign language teaching and learning dey compulsory for all basic education schools for Nigeria. Dis move na part of dem plan to make education inclusive so that no pikin go dey left behind. Di Executive Secretary of Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Aisha Garba, yarn dis one for Abuja on Thursday during di 2025 International Day of di Girl Child. Di theme na: “Lead a Change: Learn Sign Language Today.” She talk say President Bola Tinubu’s administration dey see education as “di great equaliser” and say inclusion na di “backbone.” She explain say di new policy go help create better learning environment for pikin dem wey get hearing issues and say dis one go also boost di empowerment of girls.

Garba still talk say dem don already prepare policy framework to make dis sign language palava standard for schools, plus infrastructure like ramps for learners wey get physical disability. She paint one big picture say imagine Nigeria where hospitals, schools, airports and banks get sign language interpreters, that one go mean no communication wahala again for children wey no fit hear. Di Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, still follow talk for di event. She confirm say Tinubu government serious about breaking barriers and giving every learner, no matter di condition, better access to education. She say every girl deserve voice, power, and chance for success. Right now, American Sign Language na di one dem dey use pass for Naija schools and interpreter work, even though Nigeria never get one single unified sign language.
