House of Representatives don propose constitutional amendment to protect unborn pikin if im mama dey pregnant and dem sentence her to death, di move come after House Committee on Constitution Review, wey Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu dey lead, adopt di bill on Monday in Abuja.

Di proposed change go add new subsection (1A) to Section 33(1) of 1999 Constitution, wey tuk say pregnant woman wey dey convicted of offence wey fit attract death sentence go instead get life imprisonment, so di unborn pikin go safe.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mike Ozekhome, tuk say di proposal na progressive and humane initiative, as e believe say unborn child also get right to life.

Di House explain say di amendment dey necessary to balance justice for di offence and protection of innocent life, and e dey follow standard court procedure to confirm pregnancy before life sentence.
