		Educationist, Dr. Joseph Otuagoma, don beg Federal Government (FG) make dem honour di agreement wey dem sign with Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to stop di constant strike wahala by lecturers. For statement wey come out on Monday, Otuagoma talk dis one when he dey address reporters for Lagos. He say Nigeria university system don dey suffer from plenty industrial crisis and ASUU strike don reduce confidence for public universities. According to am, “For Nigeria, if university no go on strike for one year, people go shock. Course wey suppose last four years fit turn six or seven.” He lament say di strike no just delay students, e dey also affect dia mental health and career. He say when students dey idle for long, dem fit fall into depression or bad habits, call am “national tragedy.” To stop all dis wahala, Otuagoma urge FG make dem respect every agreement dem get with ASUU, say government no suppose dey make promise wey dem no fit keep every time strike dey near.
Otuagoma remind FG say ASUU just suspend dia two-week warning strike wey start on October 13, 2025, after government and National Assembly promise to address dia demands. Di lecturers don give FG one-month window to fulfill dia requests like review of di 2009 agreement, payment of outstanding salaries, earned allowances, and revitalisation fund. Otuagoma also beg government make dem invest more for laboratories, libraries, and classrooms wey get modern technology. He lament say “some students dey study computer science wey never even touch computer before.” He also complain say public schools dey suffer underfunding, while he hail private schools for helping di system. According to am, “Private schools don come stay for Nigeria because government no dey fund education well.” He add say some schools get one teacher teaching many subjects, and some rural areas no even get qualified teachers, only corpers wey no too serious. He conclude say Nigeria must treat education as national emergency, because “no nation fit rise pass di quality of dia education.” He end by saying private schools don show say quality education fit work when focus and accountability dey, and now na time for government to do di same.
