Thousands Don Die in Road Crash – FRSC Talk

Di Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) don reveal say 3,915 people don die from 7,715 road crashes wey happen across Nigeria between January and September 2025. Di corps also talk say 24,674 people suffer different levels of injuries. Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, announce dis for National Town Hall Meeting/Ember Months Road Safety Campaign Flag-Off wey happen for Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Thursday with di theme, ‘Take Responsibility for Your Safety; Stop Distracted Driving.’ Mohammed add say di figures show say road crashes and deaths don rise compared to 2024. Nationwide, 7,715 crashes mark 10.04% increase from 7,011 crashes for di same period in 2024, while injuries rise 10.28% from 22,373 to 24,674. Death toll also climb 11.55%, from 3,811 to 3,915.

For Rivers State, Mohammed reveal say 15 people die, 51 get injuries for 47 crashes, showing improvement of 35.7% drop in deaths and 37.5% drop in injuries compared to 2024. E talk say dis na result of better emergency response and road safety awareness. Mohammed warn say di national crash figures dey alarming and fit destroy families, weaken communities, and stress di economy. He call on every road user make dem dey cautious, disciplined, and vigilant. Di Ember Months campaign begin for Rivers State because na one of di busiest transport hubs. FRSC don strengthen operations, use technology, and expand public enlightenment ahead of festive traffic. Rivers State Governor, Siminialayi Fubara, warn drivers to avoid speeding and drive safely, while urging transport unions to sensitise members against speeding, drink-driving, negligence, and other bad behaviours on road. Governor also note say even though state don build good roads, driver attitudes still dey cause crashes.
