PDP wahala: 3,000 delegates don set for high-stakes convention

Tension don dey rise inside di two factional camps of di opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as over 3,000 delegates don ready to storm Ibadan, Oyo State, for dia national elective convention wey go happen on November 15 and 16, 2025. Di wahala dey between di camp of acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, wey get di backing of PDP Governors Forum, Board of Trustees (BoT), and State Chairmen Forum, and di other camp wey Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, dey lead. Although Damagum camp plenty pass, Wike side don still show muscle by electing dia own chairman, daring di governors. Recently, Justice James Omotosho don give order wey stop di convention and bar INEC from monitoring am, but another court order from Justice Ladiran Akintola of Oyo State High Court later allow Damagum-led faction make dem go ahead. Di Damagum team come suspend National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and some other top officials for anti-party wahala, while Anyanwu own group counter am with suspension of Damagum and entire NWC. Dem also name Abdulrahman Mohammed as new acting chairman. Despite di confusion, insiders for PDP secretariat talk say di convention go still hold for Ibadan because di last court order favour dem.

Meanwhile, di Wike-backed camp still dey insist say di convention no go hold, claiming say e go amount to contempt of court and INEC no go monitor am. Anyanwu yarn say law require 21 days notice to INEC before convention, and di party never comply with am. Former Kaduna governor and BoT member, Ahmed Makarfi, talk say only di NWC fit talk di true position of di matter. For him side, Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, accuse Oyo governor, Seyi Makinde, of worsening di crisis because of him 2027 presidential ambition. E say any convention without reconciliation na waste of time and go scatter PDP more. Osadolor blast PDP governors for arrogance and warn say if dem no fix dia internal problem, e fit lead to leadership vacuum for di party. E also defend Wike, say di FCT Minister no be di problem of PDP but na some leaders wey put ambition above party unity. As di drama continue, PDP members dey wait to see whether di high-stakes convention for Ibadan go really hold or turn another political showdown.
