Di Nigeria Association of di Blind, Lagos Chapter, don call on govment and everybody for society make dem support people wey no dey see well, by promoting inclusion and making things easy for dem. Dem talk dis one on Wednesday during 2025 International White Cane and Safety Day celebration wey happen for St. Paul Anglican Church, Ilupeju. Di theme na “White Cane, My Identity.” Di association use di event take raise awareness say di white cane no be just walking stick, na tool of independence for blind people. Di chairman, Babatunde Safiu, talk say di cane help dem move freely, avoid wahala, and still make dem fit do things like go school, work and live normal life. Him beg people say if dem see blind person, make dem first ask before helping. He also cry out say even ordinary manual cane na ₦25,000 and e dey spoil quick because of weather. But him still thank Zenith Bank and Sterling Bank wey donate canes to dem.
Another speaker, Adeola Aina, wey be Chairman of Planning Committee, beg govment make dem implement laws like di National Disability Act of 2018 and di Lagos State Special People’s Law, so blind people go fit enjoy full rights. He talk say dis year’s program target over 500 blind people for Lagos. Zenith Bank’s rep, Kelechi Ogwuaku, talk say di bank believe say “ability dey inside disability,” and dem no dey discriminate as long as person meet requirement. Temitope Omogbemi from Bible Society of Nigeria also talk say dem dey distribute Braille Bibles free and organise quiz for blind people titled ‘You Can Be Their Eyes,’ to make sure nobody dey left behind.
