Community People For Lagos Dey Cry Over Demolition, Dey Beg For Compensation

Over 3,000 people for Oloruntoyin and nearby communities inside Oworonsoki, Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos, don turn homeless after Lagos State government demolish their houses. The residents talk say officials from Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) mark some buildings three months ago but no give quit notice or explain why dem mark am. When dem visit the area, people wey don lose their houses dey stranded outside, while some church members dey pick remains of their property from the rubble. One church leader, Opeyemi Okeowo, talk say na around June 2025 dem give notice based on ‘conservation’, and even though dem go LASBCA office, dem no fit see the General Manager because e dey attend one promotion ceremony. He say, “We dey do stakeholders’ meeting on Saturday, September 6, when caterpillars just show. We rush come out, but we no fit carry anything.”

Other residents like Joy Somboyo and Lateef Akin beg government to get human feeling. Joy say compensation suppose dey if demolition go happen, and complain say her late mama house wey dem bury her inside na wetin government destroy. Lateef cry say the house wey government bring down belong to him mama, and na where him, him wife and two-month-old baby dey stay. All their property, laptop, TV, chair don scatter inside the building, and now dem no get where to go or even bath. Him say, “We be royal family for this land, we no be strangers. My baby body don full with rashes.” Up till now, LASBCA Public Relations Officer, Ademuyiwa Adu, never respond to calls and I believe say God go intervene.
