Abuja – September 8, 2025 – The Federal Government don summon Dangote Group and NUPENG leaders come emergency meeting today over serious wahala wey fit paralyze Nigeria fuel supply as oil workers don begin nationwide strike against Dangote Group over wetin dem call anti-union policy and poor working condition. Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Dingyadi, gree say the matter don red and invite all parties to urgent tripartite meeting by 3pm today inside him Abuja office, to stop the strike wey NUPENG don already start. But NUPENG still dey press their leg for ground say strike go continue until all their wahala with Dangote Group clear. Dem accuse Aliko Dangote and him associates of trying to kill trade unionism for the oil sector by forcing workers, especially drivers, to join one fake group, Direct Trucking Company Drivers Association (DTCDA) – instead of joining recognised union like NUPENG. According to NUPENG, the Dangote Refinery dey pay one of the lowest salaries in the whole oil and gas sector, and dey treat staff like dem no get rights.
Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) don fully back the strike and don tell all 54 unions and 36 state councils to mobilize their members for possible nationwide action. NLC President, Joe Ajaero, say this na direct attack on all Nigerian workers, and if Dangote succeed with this kain move, no job or worker go safe again. Edo State NLC chapter don already announce support and advise residents to buy enough fuel as filling stations go shut down. Fuel scarcity don already start with long queues and rising black market prices. Meanwhile, human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) don throw support behind NUPENG, saying the Dangote policy dey violate section 40 of the Constitution, Trade Union Act, ILO Conventions 87 and 98, and other international agreements wey Nigeria don ratify. He call on the Federal Government and the FCCPC to stop the monopoly and anti-worker practices of the Dangote Group.
NUPENG come blast the so-called Direct Trucking Company Drivers Association, call am a management-created fraud wey Dangote and Sayyu Dantata use to break the union. Dem say the person wey sign DTCDA press release, Enoch Kanawa no be tanker driver but lawyer wey don work for oil bosses like MRS Energy. According to NUPENG, the address of DTCDA na the same with MRS Energy Limited office, show say the group no get credibility. The union say dem still united and ready to continue the indefinite strike until all demands dey met, and warn say this struggle na for the soul of Nigerian workers. “Our solidarity remains constant, for the union makes us strong!” NUPENG leaders declare.
