Demolition: Lagos Dey Compensate More Oworonshoki Residents

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu don reaffirm him commitment to fairness, transparency and di welfare of residents wey demolition of unsafe buildings dey affect across di state. Di General Manager of di Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA), Oladimeji Animashaun, deliver di assurance during di second phase of compensation for affected Oworonshoki residents, as him talk say government no go deny anybody dia right to own property even as dem dey remove structures wey pose environmental threat. Animashaun remind people say 79 affected persons collect cheque for di first round and another 100 don receive dia own today. He talk say Governor Sanwo-Olu promise compensation and na “promise made, promise fulfilled.” Beneficiaries like Nwaoha Rosemary and Patrick Arinze hail di government after receiving ₦1 million and ₦3 million respectively, as compensation dey range from ₦1 million to ₦5 million depending on di value of each demolished property.

Weeks earlier, Lagos State Government don deny claims say dem disobey court order by continuing demolition for Oworonshoki. Attorney General Lawal Pedro (SAN) describe di allegation as “false and unfair,” insisting say no court order reach any state agency before di latest demolition phase. He tell reporters say even though di order dem dey refer to dey endorsed on October 24  same day demolition happen  e no fit don reach government office that time, as “government no dey act on verbal notice.” Pedro accuse some litigants of using court process “as instrument of oppression” to block public interest, while explaining say demolition for Oworonshoki start almost one month earlier but Sanwo-Olu order temporary suspension to give residents time to relocate.
