FG Say Bad Feed Dey Ruin Modern Livestock Farming

Federal Government don put blame for why modern livestock farming no dey grow well for Nigeria, ECOWAS and di Sahel region on di poor quality of animal feed. Dr Chinyere Ijeoma Akujobi, di Permanent Secretary of Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, yarn dis one during di opening of regional high-level workshop wey dey focus on animal feed industry for West Africa and di Sahel. She talk say dis wahala dey make livestock farmers vulnerable and dey reduce di ability of countries for di region to meet di growing demand for food. She add say even though West Africa and di Sahel get plenty potential for animal production, pastoral lands, diverse livestock, and old-school knowledge of farmers, all dis potential no fit help food security, poverty reduction, or economic growth because of di challenges wey dey.

Dr Akujobi still point out say factors like lack of industrial infrastructure, heavy reliance on imported inputs, climate wahala, and poor regional coordination dey limit di competitiveness of di livestock sector. She talk say di workshop dey timely to allow public and private actors share experience, discuss tools wey go help develop strong regional animal feed industry. She yarn say Nigeria’s animal feed policy dey aligned with di National Livestock Growth Acceleration Strategy (NLGAS) wey go run from 2025 reach 2035. According to her, strong local and regional feed industry go create jobs, reduce import dependence, and boost food sovereignty.
