Di two new companies wey Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC) just approve, Excel Distribution Company Limited and IE Energy Lagos Limited, na just subsidiaries of EKEDC and IKEDC, no be say dem replace dem. Di whole move na to follow di Electricity Act 2023 wey give state government power to regulate light matter for dia own state.
One source talk say di reason wey dem create di new companies na to make sure say di old DisCos fit still hold dia national licence from NERC till 2028, but also obey Lagos State laws. E say, “Dis na wetin dem expect under di new law. Di new companies na just baby companies of Ikeja Electric and Eko DisCo to work under LASERC.” Another insider talk say nothing change for management or staff, na just name wey change. Di licence ceremony happen on October 2, 2025 for Radisson Blu, Ikeja, and big people like LASERC Chairman Engr. Abimbola Odubiyi and CEO Dr. Fouad Animashaun dey there. Dem talk say na big step for Lagos to get steady, better light. Representatives from di two new companies, Folake Soetan and Sheri Adegbenro, promise to work with LASERC to deliver better service. Di move show say Lagos dey enter serious state-level control for electricity, but e no mean say dem don scatter EKEDC and IKEDC, dem still dey, just now under new structure.
