Lagos Go Work to Keep Mama and Pikin Safe and Healthy

Lagos State don promise to protect mama, newborn pikin, and children from any harm wey dey preventable. The state join the whole world to celebrate 2025 World Patient Safety Day. This year theme na: “Safe Care for Every Newborn and Every Child” and e waka with “Patient Safety from the Start.” Dem hold the event for NECA House, Ikeja. Di health oga, policymakers, and people wey sabi work for health side come talk say make health care better and system strong. Special Adviser to Governor on Health, Dr. Kemi Ogunyemi, talk say this event na “celebration of hope, unity, and shared responsibility.” She talk say make children begin life safe no be small matter and she call for changes plus make everybody for community join hand. She clear say, “Our goal still be Lagos wey no go allow any pikin suffer because care no safe.” She add say, “This one no be only talk, na to celebrate health champions, make children voice loud, and say we go build safer system.”

She talk some steps wey dem don take like: increase health centers; make hospital dey follow better rules; train health workers well; and use new better way dey deliver care. She beg workers, schools, church, and family make dem become patient safety ambassador for community. Dr. Yemisi Solanke-Koya, chair of Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency, talk say make people dey work together to make culture wey dey safe. She talk say, “Our main work na to make sure say no mama, pikin, or family go suffer because care no safe.” She praise government for making patient safety priority and talk well about frontline health workers and partners wey dey help.

Dr. Abiola Idowu, Permanent Secretary of HEFAMAA, join the talk say patient safety no be only medical thing but moral duty. She talk say the year theme match Governor Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ plan wey focus on health, safety, and respect of every Lagos child. She talk say plenty children for the world dey suffer harm wey fit prevent every year and Lagos dey ready to stop am with better laws, more health care, and better care standards. She talk say, “Safe care no be only healthcare work, na investment for strong family, healthy community, and better world.” She ask for safe birth practice, quick health help, and good place wey fit respect and make family and health workers trust each other. For the week, Lagos joined policy makers, health workers, and students for symposium to share how to make mama and pikin health better. The event end with talk on how different sectors go join hands, make people dey answer for their work, and make community stand for patient safety.
