Lagos State Government don talk say dem go install like 3,000 e-police and speed limit cameras for di state to help control traffic wahala.

Di Director of Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS), Engr. Akin-George Fashola, yarn dis one on Tuesday for one program wey dem call Lagos Transport Trends and Perspectives, wey di Ministry of Transportation sponsor for Traffic Radio 96.1 FM.

Engr. Fashola talk say dem don already put speed limit cameras for some places like Alapere-Ogudu Road (wey be 80km/h go Alausa and 60km/h go Iyana Oworo) and Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way (wey be 60km/h).

Areas wey dem don already install cameras

E talk say e-police cameras don dey for Allen Junction and Nurudeen Olowopopo Road for Ikeja to catch people wey dey run red light and do other traffic wahala. E still warn motorists make dem shine eye see the warning signs wey dem don put for those areas, so dem no go fall for trap.

Penalty wey go follow
VIS Director come yarn say anybody wey break speed limit go pay Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000) as fine. But if you sure say you no do am, you fit contest the fine if you get better proof.

One caller con ask whether commercial buses dey exempted from the enforcement, but Engr. Fashola talk say na lie! Say everyday, dem dey catch like 50 commercial buses wey dey break different traffic laws.

Online Roadworthiness
E still talk say government don bring online roadworthiness recertification system for people wey don already get motor. With this new system, you no need waka go VIS office again—just do everything online sharp-sharp.

E still add say VIS don start auto verification service for people wey wan buy tokunbo motor. This service go show you full history of the car, so you no go buy wahala join body. Engr. Fashola advise Lagos people make dem check VIS website or waka enter any of di 45 VIS centers for better information.

Wetin you suppose know
Last month, Lagos State Government talk say dem don partner with Huawei Technologies, one Chinese tech company, to put four new Intelligent Transport System (ITS) sites for different places wey go help manage traffic well and improve road safety.

Di new cameras go join di Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras wey dem don already install plus other Traffic Management Solution (TMS) gadgets wey dey work already.

Earlier for 2024, Lagos State Government launch one 15-year transport policy wey dem divide into different phases:

  • 2 years
  • 2 to 5 years
  • 5 to 10 years
  • Up to 15 years

For di first 2 years, one of di main plans na to bring Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) wey go help traffic control. Dem go set up modern Traffic Control Centre (TCC) and introduce Area Traffic Control (ATC) wey go get better traffic lights wey go fit adjust timing by themselves.
