The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) on Tuesday talk say 12 people injure from the 583 passengers wey dey the Asham train wey derail for Abuja. The Director General of NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh, talk this one while e dey give update about the investigation wey dem dey do. E talk say dem don appoint Investigator-in-Charge (IIC) wey go lead the probe, and e dey work with other stakeholders like Nigerian Railway Corporation. Badeh explain say the team don take steps to protect evidence like securing the site and keeping important data like CCTV footage and other materials wey fit help find out wetin cause the derailment. E also beg Federal Government and other stakeholders to help with funding so the bureau fit do better investigation and protect lives of Nigerians. NSIB talk say final report go ready within 30 days from the incident, which be 23 days from now, and dem go share am with NRC, regulatory authorities, and public.
The incident happen last Tuesday for Kaduna corridor just after the train commot Abuja around 11 am, heading to Kaduna. One passenger wey dey the train describe the scene as chaotic as people dey rush for safety. After the incident, Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) stop all train operations for Abuja-Kaduna route until further notice. NRC spokesman Opeifa talk to journalists for Abuja hours after the incident say some technical staff from the corporation, NSIB, and other agencies dey the derailment site doing investigation. E also reject talk wey say the trains no dey good condition and confirm say dem don start refund the ticket fees to all passengers wey dey the train.
