The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency don record total of 8,692 cases between August 2024 and July 2025, na wetin the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Mr. Lawal Pedro, talk. The breakdown of the matter show say 3,685 na domestic violence, 243 na defilement, 244 na child abuse and physical assault, 99 na rape, 48 na sexual harassment, and 25 na sexual assault by penetration. Dem also record 41 cyber harassment, 32 threats to life, and 726 family wahala wey concern custody, neglect, abduction, and child labour. As the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary for Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Hameed Oyenuga, represent am, he explain say the aim of the exercise na to make SGBV awareness strong well-well across the state so that children, adults, families and people wey dey work go fit get safer environment. “The theme for this year na SGBV?…‘E CONCERN ALL OF US’. Dis one base on the serious need to make sure say people wey dey live for Lagos understand say SGBV no dey look age, class, religion or how much person get. Na why everybody gats join body carry the matter for head and support the zero-tolerance stand.” The awareness go run throughout September with things like Turn Lagos Purple campaign, advocacy walks against SGBV, market and couple sensitisation, survivor day, symposium, government and private sector engagement, safeguarding and child protection week, and go end with Governor’s awards night. Government hope say by the end, media go dey more involved, more people go dey report cases through the toll-free hotline, cases go reduce, and better policy go come out from the data wey dem gather.
