Di lawmaker wey dey represent Yamaltu/Deba Federal Constituency for Gombe State, Inuwa Garba, don beg Federal Government make dem help stop di constant hippopotamus attack wey dey kill him people. Garba raise di matter on Thursday as motion of urgent public importance during plenary wey Deputy Speaker Hon Benjamin Kalu preside over. Him talk say di deadly hippo attacks don dey happen regularly for many communities inside di constituency, especially affect fishermen and farmers wey dey work near rivers and farmlands. “These attacks don cause death of some fishermen and farmers, destroy crops, and bring serious hardship to families and communities wey dey depend on farming and fishing,” Garba yan.

Di PDP lawmaker talk say on October 5, one canoe dey attacked, and Yahaya Bawa die while many others wound. He warn say if dem no do anything fast, di attacks fit turn big humanitarian and economic wahala, as people go dey displaced and food go scarce. Di House later adopt di motion, direct Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) to provide motorised boats for better movement of farmers and goods for riverine areas. Dem also beg Federal Government to set up inter-agency committee including Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources, NEMA and HYPPADEC to assess di damage and give relief materials and compensation. House still call for proper wildlife control plan to protect di people and send House Committees go visit di affected communities for proper check and lasting solution.
