All of Jamaica don turn “disaster area” after Hurricane Melissa land with deadly force. Di Category 5 storm, one of di strongest Atlantic hurricanes ever, hit di island with 185mph wind and heavy rain wey cause massive flooding and destroy whole towns. Before e even land, three people don already die, and government officials say e still early to know if more people don lose dia lives. Di US National Hurricane Center call am “extremely dangerous and life-threatening,” as hospitals, schools and key infrastructures don burn or scatter. Prime Minister Andrew Holness declare national disaster, warn citizens make dem stay indoors as flooding and landslides still dey worry di island.

Di hurricane don weaken to Category 4 but e still dey blow around 150mph, wrecking buildings and tearing roofs off homes, especially for places like St Elizabeth, Manchester, Westmoreland and St James. At least four hospitals don suffer heavy damage, patients dey evacuated, and plenty areas still dey without light or network. Reports say over 35% of homes no get power, mobile networks crash, and internet service drop to 42%. Red Cross estimate say more than 1.5 million Jamaicans don dey affected as floodwater, trees, and electric wires scatter roads. Di scale of damage never clear yet, but government and rescue teams don enter full emergency mode to save lives and restore order.
