Justice For Ochanya: Lagos Protesters No Gree For Rape Cases

Child rights activists and civil society groups don storm di Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday, dey demand justice for late Ochanya Ogbanje and other pikin wey don suffer sexual abuse for Nigeria. Di protesters, wey march from Ikeja Under Bridge go di Assembly complex, carry placards wey read “Justice for Ochanya,” “Stop Child Molestation,” and “Protect Our Children, Punish Pedophiles.” Di protest come as di #JusticeForOchanya movement trend again for social media, especially as Nigerians mark di seventh anniversary of di 13-year-old girl wey die for 2018 after she suffer long-time sexual abuse. Di Lagos State Coordinator of Child Protection Network, Aderonke Oyelakin, wey lead di protest talk say dem no go keep quiet again as many children still dey suffer same pain. She beg di Inspector-General of Police, Attorney-General of di Federation, and other authorities make dem reopen and prosecute di case well-well.

Actress and humanitarian, Sunshine Rossman, join di protest talk say she come out to support di fight against sexual abuse of minors. Rossman, wey be coordinator of She Foundation, call on government make dem add sex education to school curriculum and encourage parents to teach pikin about bad touching. She yarn say, “We must speak up even if e no concern us directly because tomorrow fit be your pikin or your sister.” Di protesters talk say dem no go stop until justice show face for Ochanya matter and until di government put stronger protection system for children across Nigeria.
