ECOWAS, AU Drag Military Takeover For Guinea-Bissau

Election observation missions from African Union (AU), ECOWAS, and West African Elders Forum don condemn di military takeover wey stop di announcement of presidential and legislative elections for Guinea-Bissau. Di joint statement signed by AU Head Filipe Nyusi, ECOWAS Head Issifu Kamara, and West African Elders Forum Head Goodluck Jonathan call di coup “blatant attempt to disrupt di democratic process” and urge AU and ECOWAS make dem restore constitutional order. Di missions also express concern say di announcement of coup come shortly after dem meet di two leading candidates, Umaro Embalo and Fernando Dias, wey promise to respect di will of di people.

Di military officers, led by General Denis N’Canha, declare say armed forces dey take total control of di country, suspend all electoral process, close borders, and impose curfew. Dem claim say dem uncover plan wey national drug lords dey involved to destabilise Guinea-Bissau.
