More than 100 market women for Aboju, Lagos State, don dey sensitised on health and climate wahala wey dey come from cooking with firewood and other traditional methods, while dem expose dem to safer and cleaner cooking options. Di women join workshop on Clean Energy wey Earth and Sustainability Initiative (ESI) organise for Oja Market, Aboju. Programme Director, Ebere Akwuebue, talk say di advocacy na part of their visits to communities, after dem discover say women for most low-income and rural areas dey rely on unsafe cooking energy like charcoal, firewood, sawdust and others. She add say di education cover health risks and environmental dangers wey come from dia normal cooking activities.
She talk say di initiative dey provide alternative cooking resources wey fit reach di women on Pay As You Go (PAYG) basis, reduce climate change impact, and help Nigeria meet net zero emissions by 2050. Di alternate stove dey use less charcoal, conserve heat, and cook faster than traditional coal pot. Margaret Igbokwe, representing Aboju-Oja Market leader, hail di initiative, saying e dey educate market women on health wahala from unsafe cooking and give healthier, cleaner alternatives to keep their environment safe.
