Lagos, NCF Don Call For Join Body Fight Against Plastic And Dirty Environment

Lagos State Government and di Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) don call on Lagos people and companies make dem join hand fight plastic wahala and dirty environment wey don dey choke di state. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu yarn dis one for di 19th Walk for Nature event wey happen for Yabatech, where im talk say di theme “Lagos, Let’s Beat Plastic Pollution” no just sweet for ear, e serious well-well. Di governor wey send im Special Adviser on Environment, Engr. Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu, talk say Nigeria dey produce about 2.5 million tonnes of plastic waste every year, and Lagos dey carry about 870,000 tonnes, but less than 12% dey recycled. Dis plastic dey block gutter, cause flood, kill marine life, and even dey affect human health. Sanwo-Olu talk say di government don ban single-use plastic and Styrofoam, improve LAWMA operation, introduce di Blue Box Programme, and partner with private recyclers and agencies to push Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) policy make manufacturers recycle wetin dem produce.

Di Director General of NCF, Dr. Joseph Onoja, and di NEC Chairman, Justice R.I.B Adebiyi, add say di fight against plastic pollution no be government work alone,  everybody must play dia part. Dem talk say di “Walk for Nature” dey raise awareness, especially among youths, on how to protect nature and avoid using plastic carelessly. Justice Adebiyi warn say plastics wey enter sea dey turn to microplastics wey fish dey chop and humans later dey eat, and e fit cause cancer and other sickness. Di Permanent Secretary for Environment, Gaji Omobolaji Tajudeen, hail NCF for dia commitment to protect nature and push sustainability, saying di Walk for Nature dey remind everybody say na all of us get responsibility to protect di planet. As Lagos and NCF continue to lead di charge, dem talk say di goal na to build a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Lagos wey go stand as example for Africa and di world.
