Lagos Teachers Dey Collect Minimum N150,000 Every Month — LASUED VC Talk

Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), Professor Bidemi Lafiaji-Okuneye, don talk say no teacher for Lagos State dey earn less than N150,000 every month. She yarn dis one during event wey dem do for LASUED Ijanikin campus on Monday to mark 2025 World Teachers’ Day, under di theme “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession.” She talk say teachers’ welfare dey affect education quality directly and say when dem no dey value teachers or pay dem well, e dey cause brain drain, low morale and make young people no wan join the profession. She add say Lagos State dey among the few wey get better salary structure for teachers and say “no teacher go house with less than N150,000.” But she also talk say more still need to be done.

She salute teachers for dia commitment but point out say dem still face wahala like poor preparation, bad working conditions, lack of professional development and small appreciation from society. She beg Lagos State Government and education funding bodies to invest well in classroom infrastructure, digital tools, and science labs starting from 2026. She suggest say 20% of education budget fit go into these upgrades. Meanwhile, Federal Ministry of Education for August launch digital portal for teacher registration, license and certification, under TRCN watch. TRCN also reduce dia Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) from 23 subjects to just five, maths, literacy, pedagogy, digital literacy and safeguarding. Education Minister, Dr Tunji Alausa, talk say non-education graduates wey don teach for at least 12 months fit qualify through one abridged certification with NTI.
