Senate Don Begin Move To Increase Salary For Soldiers And Security People

Di Nigerian Senate go debate one motion on Wednesday, October 22, wey wan push for better salary and working condition for Armed Forces and other security agencies. Di motion wey Senator Ali Ndume from Borno South carry come Senate floor talk say soldiers and security people dey suffer under “grossly inadequate” pay despite risking dia lives every day for Nigeria. He yarn say junior officers dey collect just ₦50,000 to ₦60,000 monthly, which no fit cover food, transport, house rent or school fees, even as cost of living don high. Ndume remind di lawmakers say di Constitution talk say na duty of military to defend di country, so dem deserve better pay like wetin soldiers for Ghana, Kenya, Egypt and South Africa dey collect.

Di motion still talk say bad welfare dey cause low morale, corruption and desertion among troops. E say if dem increase pay, e go boost discipline and make security strong again. Senator Ndume compare Nigeria with countries like U.S, U.K and India, wey dey pay soldiers more than minimum wage. Di motion dey call Federal Government, Ministries of Defence, Finance, Budget and Salary Commission make dem raise Armed Forces pay to match today economy. E also ask Senate Committees on Defence make dem help set better salary standard, and make RMAFC plus Appropriations Committee include better Defence budget for 2026. If dem adopt am, e fit lead to regular salary review and better motivation for Nigerian security forces.
