President of di Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), Dr. Hassan Makolo don cry out say Nigerian workers dey suffocate under di heavy wahala of high cost of living, fuel price wey don rise back-to-back, and di constant fall of di naira. As e talk for di union National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, Makolo paint di matter clear say many families don dey drown inside hardship as price of food, transport, house rent and even hospital bill don waka go sky high. E talk say workers salary no dey match di reality again as inflation don chop all di value finish, especially for states wey dem still dey pay half or irregular salary.
Makolo beg government make dem move from ordinary minimum wage to better “living wage” policy wey go dey follow inflation and cost of living. E blame di bad economy on fuel and energy cost, naira devaluation and poor management wey don scatter workers’ purchasing power. Di NASU boss talk say labour go continue to fight for better pay, social protection and accountability for how di country dey run. E still talk say insecurity, unemployment and youth wahala dey worsen di matter as many Nigerians don enter informal work without protection. E urge government make dem focus on creating jobs through vocational training, support SMEs, fix road and light, and use better technology take fight kidnapping, banditry and terrorism wey dey threaten workers life and livelihood.
