Lagos State govment don seal one proposed cemetery construction site for Bode Thomas area inside Surulere after residents of Natufe/Animashaun community protest say dem no want burial ground near dia houses. Di people vex say if dem build cemetery for dat area, e go pollute dia borehole water wey na wetin dem dey drink since dem no get pipe-borne water. Even as rain dey fall on Saturday, residents still come out with placards wey carry message like “No cemetery,” as dem gather for di site wey dey close to houses, one school and one church near Bode Thomas junction. Lagos Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, react say di site don seal and make residents no worry because nothing go happen there again.
Di developer, Olumide Amure, wey try start di same project some years back before dem stop am, don start construction again secretly, according to di residents. CDA Chairperson, Omolabake Braimoh, talk say dem don write letter to Coker-Aguda LCDA chairman and go still write more to block di project. She claim say di man wan build one adult cemetery and another one for children just three blocks away. Former CDA chairman, Olarenwaju Olaniyan, still join mouth say dem don fight dis matter reach state level before and dem go fight am again. He talk say “if dem bury people here, ground and water go pollute, people go sick. We no go allow am bring disease come this community. We don already send 11 petitions before, and we go send more again. Dis kind wicked plan no go work here.”
