My Papa Leave 20 Houses, 30 Pikin – Abba Kyari

Suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, on Wednesday tell Federal High Court for Abuja say di plenty properties wey NDLEA dey link to am na im late papa own and e 30 siblings dey share am. Kyari talk say im late papa leave over 20 houses for Maiduguri, Borno State, and some of di properties dem don sell to pay im papa medical bills before e die. Kyari insist say e no fit declare di properties for im asset form because e never collect im own share. Under cross-examination, Kyari yarn, “My Lord, I no fit put my interest for di property for di form because di 20 houses na my papa own, not me. If I get my percentage, I go declare am, but until I get my own, all di properties belong to all im pikin dem, wey be about 30.”

Kyari dey face 23 counts wey NDLEA file against am, wey include say im and im two co-defendants, Mohammed Kyari and Ali Kyari, no fully declare assets, hide ownership of properties and convert funds against di law. Im talk say NDLEA never prove say di properties na im own, citing Section 128 of Evidence Act wey need certified true copies of title documents to show ownership. Kyari admit say some of di properties don sell and di money share among relatives wey need am. E also talk say di millions of naira wey trace to im account na operational funds from police and some governors for security work, and sometimes e pass di money through im relatives to repay loans for urgent operations. Justice Omotosho adjourn matter to November 12 for continuation of di hearing.
