UNICAL Don, Ndifon, Don Collect 5-Year Jail Term For Sexual Harassment

Federal High Court wey dey sit for Abuja on Monday don convict suspended Dean of Faculty of Law, University of Calabar (UNICAL), Prof. Cyril Ndifon, and sentence am to five years jail for sexually harassing him female students. Justice James Omotosho deliver di judgement, find am guilty on two out of four-count charge wey Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) prefer against am. However, court discharge and acquit him co-defendant and lawyer, Mr Sunny Anyanwu, wey dem accuse of trying pervert di course of justice because di evidence against am no prove any offence.

Justice Omotosho give Ndifon two years in prison for one count and five years for another, and di sentences go run concurrently. ICPC claim say Ndifon, while Dean of Law, harass him female students by asking dem send explicit photos through WhatsApp, including one female diploma student wey dem call “TJK.” Allegations against di defendants na sexual harassment, cybercrime and attempt to pervert justice. Ndifon deny di claims, file no-case-submission wey court dismiss March 6, 2024, before e open him defence. For defence, Ndifon testify as him own witness, while CSP Babagana Mingali from ONSA lab also testify as second witness. Ndifon insist say prosecution evidence no strong enough for conviction.
