Light Workers Threaten Nationwide Shutdown Over Staff Brutality

Di National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) don threaten nationwide shutdown after dem allege say staff of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for Egbu 132/33kV Substation, Imo State, face brutal attack. According to di Acting General Secretary, Dominic Igwebike, workers on duty allegedly dey beaten, held hostage at gunpoint and some even abducted by armed police officers wey dem say act on top orders from di state. Di officers reportedly force enter di control rooms, vandalise equipment, disrupt operations and disconnect power illegally. Dem also destroy personal belongings like phones, laptops, vehicles and even vandalise CCTV cameras before carrying some workers go unknown location. Di union don direct all members for Imo State to stop power supply operations till further notice.

NUEE say dem dey shocked and condemn di “gangsterism and unprofessional conduct” from police officers wey invade di substation and force operators to open breakers under duress. Dem demand immediate release of dia abducted members, full medical care for assaulted staff and replacement of all damaged property. Di union also want formal undertaking from TCN management, Federal Ministry of Power and di Inspector General of Police to protect electricity workers and stop incidents like dis. NUEE don order all members nationwide to stay away from office until safety dey guaranteed, warning say if authorities no act fast, dem go withdraw services across di whole country until proper security and protection dey in place.
