Despite plenty government warnings and enforcement, people still dey dump dirt for road side for big Lagos roads like Ijesha, Sanya, Cele, and Akewukewe inside Mushin, Surulere, and Oshodi-Isolo. Motorists and pedestrians dey face wahala as plastic bags, food waste, and building rubbish full road medians and drains, block traffic and water flow. Lagos law punish illegal dumping with fine of ₦250,000 or three months jail, but people no dey care. Since June 2025, government launch “zero tolerance” campaign, and Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab don arrest plenty people wey dey dump for road, including those caught for Ikorodu Road and Ajasa Command Road.
LAWMA report show over 50 people don get arrested for dirt dumping from April to September 2025. Wahab talk say government no go allow any area turn dump site, and enforcement dey go on strong with daily patrols and prosecution for offenders. Residents for Sanya and Cele talk say dirt just dey appear for road overnight, cause traffic jam and bad smell by morning. Government say dem deploy surveillance and waste trucks to clear dirt and monitor big roads like Apapa-Oshodi, Ikorodu, and Badagry. Dem also beg people to use registered waste handlers and report any dumping to LAWMA or Environmental Sanitation Corps because road dirt dey cause drainage block and flooding during rain.
