Lagos State Government don apologise to people wey flood affect for some parts of the state and explain wetin make flood overflow on Tuesday. Many areas for Lagos State suffer plenty flooding on Wednesday morning as heavy rain cover streets and block movement for the city. Videos wey residents post for social media show how vehicles and motorcycles struggle pass through flooded roads for places like Lekki-Epe Expressway, Ago Palace Way, Apple Junction, Ago Bridge, and Mile 2. For statement wey Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab post for him X account on Wednesday, he sympathise with all people wey the flood cause problem for. He talk, “We sincerely sympathise with all residents wey flood affect for parts of the State yesterday. We understand the discomfort and wahala wey e cause, and we really feel for all wey e affect.” The commissioner explain say Lagos coastal city, plus heavy rain and tidal lock, make am naturally easy for flood to happen. “As coastal city, Lagos dey vulnerable to flooding, especially when heavy rain combine with tidal lock. Despite this, State Government dey put money for drainage work, regular desilting, and dey enforce environmental laws to reduce flooding and protect lives and property,” Wahab talk.

About some of the places wey flooding hit well, he say, “For Kusenla, the problem na technical one: downstream level dey about 1.2 meters higher than drainage inlet, as survey for ongoing government project for end of Kusenla road confirm, wey go include pumping station. “For House on the Rock church area, flooding happen because of illegal building and dumping refuse for drains. This kain things dey make flooding worse and must stop.” Wahab warn say illegal buildings cause flood and government go remove dem. Make we keep environment clean, no dump refuse for drains, and no build for floodplains if we wan get Lagos wey no dey flood. “Many videos wey dem share yesterday show clear illegal building and dumping, and @followlasg go make sure dem remove all illegal structures and obstruction quick, including illegal reclamations wey no get proper Environmental Impact Assessment and Drainage Clearance.” The commissioner still say ministry go continue to work hard to improve flood management system.
