Di traders beg federal and state government make dem quick do something about di food wahala wey dey get worse every day. Some traders and people wey dey live for Lagos don complain say food price don waka go up and e no be like how e be during last year Independence Day celebration. Dem talk say dem no happy for different interviews wey dem do with journalists on Wednesday for Lagos. Traders for Oshodi area talk say food price keep dey rise and government never do anything to stop am, even though e dey affect people well well. Dem talk say prices for important foods like rice, beans, garri, and tomato don increase, and e dey hard for families to fit chop balanced meals. One rice seller, Banke Faleye, talk say rice don nearly become too expensive for most people because price dey increase steady steady. Last year, local rice dey sell between N90,000 and N95,000 per bag, while foreign rice dey cost N110,000 to N120,000. Now, local rice don pass N100,000, while foreign rice still dey around di same price. Families no fit buy rice like before, but government just dey silent. As traders, we no dey meet our sales targets again because demand don drop well well, Ms Faleye talk. One beans seller, Nonye Nwosu, yarn say beans, wey people dey use as rice substitute before, don also sharp increase for price.

One paint of beans now dey sell for between N5,000 and N6,000, depending on di type. Because people no get money like before, many buyers dey buy food in small cups now. We dey wonder how big families go fit feed themselves for dis kain times, Ms Nwosu talk. Opeyemi Olajuwon, wey dey sell tomato and pepper, talk say di price increase na because tomatoes no dey always, plus transport costs don double. Tomato na seasonal food, but dis kain wahala pass normal season matter. Transport money don double, so everything price dey waka up. If you get N1,000 worth tomato, e no fit cook soup for small family again.  As trader, even if I fit cook stew, how I go take afford buy rice for my family?” she ask. Dem traders beg both federal and state governments make dem quickly do something about di food wahala wey dey worsen. Dem still talk say Nigerians dey suffer more as food price dey push families deeper inside poverty, and e dey hard for people to chop better food. For Mile 12 market, traders talk say price of one bag rice don almost double for di last one year. Economic experts say di price waka come because naira weak, transport cost high because fuel price don rise, plus insecurity for important farming areas. Di government stop fuel subsidy and flooding for the north still dey block supply, make price dey rise, even though government don promise to help agriculture grow. Resident for FESTAC, Favour Onyedika, dey complain about di wahala. She ask, How we go take celebrate when foodstuff no even dey affordable for we? President Bola Tinubu don ask make people dey patient, say im reforms go help steady economy for long run. But plenty Nigerians still dey worry about how to survive now now. Ms Onyedika talk say, “We dey hope say things go better for di future, but for now, na only wetin we fit buy we dey buy.
