Sanwo-Olu Wife Dey Champion Mental Health Awareness

Wife of Lagos State Governor, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, don beg people make dem show love and empathy to those wey dey face mental health wahala instead of to dey stigmatise dem. For statement wey come out from her office on Saturday, Ibijoke talk say mental illness don turn big concern across all di local government areas for Lagos. She follow Orunsii WellCare Foundation waka go Ikorodu to mark World Mental Health Day 2025 under di theme ‘Community: Supporting Mental Wellbeing Together.’ She stress say people need to get compassion, understanding, and strong community support for those wey dey battle mental health challenge. According to her, mental stress fit come from many things, work, money wahala, family or relationship, and e fit jam anybody. “Every family dey affected one way or di other. Life fit too heavy sometimes, and prevention better pass cure,” she yarn.

She talk say mental health na big part of overall well-being and everybody get role to play to support those wey dey suffer mentally. “We suppose stop di stigma and replace am with care and love,” she add. For di same event, Special Project Officer on Mental Health for Lagos Ministry of Health, Dr. Tolu Ajomale, talk say mental illness cases never really increase, but people don dey speak out more now. “Na same number of cases, but now people dey open up more. During lockdown, isolation make many confront dia emotions. Na why now we dey hear more people share wetin dem dey go through,” he explain.
