Lagos Don Start EIA Enforcement Against Land Reclamation Projects

Lagos State government don announce say dem don start strong enforcement against all land reclamation projects wey no get Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approval and drainage clearance for di state. Di notice wey Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab sign, talk say di enforcement start today after di seven-day ultimatum wey dem give lawbreakers don expire. Di ultimatum bin dey inside public notices wey dem publish for national newspapers on September 18 and 19, 2025. According to di statement, “Dis na to inform di general public, especially people, developers and companies wey dey do illegal land reclamation and dey encroach waterfront say di seven days grace period to stop di illegal work expire on September 25, 2025.”

Di statement come add say, based on Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law 2017 and other laws, government go now begin remove all illegal reclamation structures and sand fillings wey no get correct EIA and drainage clearance. Dem go still seize any equipment and materials wey dem see for those illegal sites and carry di offenders go court under Environmental and Urban Development Laws of di state. Government still warn people make dem no dey buy land or do business with illegal land reclamation people again, say all these actions na to protect di environment, stop flood and keep everybody safe.
