To Hold First For Climate Governance Ranking 2025 Na Win For All Lagos People

Di Lagos State Commissioner don talk with plenty pride as e hail how Lagos don perform for di 2nd Edition of di Subnational Climate Governance Performance Ranking (SCGPR 2.0) wey Society for Planet and Prosperity (SPP) develop under Prof. Chukwumerije Okereke together with di Federal Ministry of Environment and other partners. Di report wey dem launch for Abuja on October 14, 2025, show say Lagos don top Nigeria list for climate governance two times back-to-back, scoring 315 out of 360. Di Commissioner talk say di achievement no be by luck but result of strong policy, teamwork, and di effort of every Lagosian wey dey support climate action. He talk say Lagos don protect over 3 million residents from flood wahala, support 150,000 households with cleaner energy, and dey make sure say livelihood dey strong across di 57 LGAs and LCDAs. He still mention say Lagos don build better structure for climate planning across ministries and even create di Lekki Low-Carbon Demonstration Zone (LLCDZ) wey go attract ₦120 billion green investment, create 5,000 jobs, and reduce 200,000 tonnes of carbon every year.

He still talk say Lagos no dey rest on top achievement as di state don update environmental laws, launch Africa’s first subnational carbon exchange, and start project wey go help 100 small businesses benefit from carbon credit trade, generating $15 million yearly. Lagos also dey invest ₦1 billion per LGA every year for green projects wey don already fix over 40 major drainages and reduce flood damage by ₦45 billion. Projects like di 8MW Floating Solar Plant for LASU, di Rooftop Solar Programme for 10,000 homes, and Waste-to-Wealth schemes don already create 12,000 green jobs and give cleaner power to schools and hospitals.
