A new report wey FAO (Food and Agriculture Organisation) and WFP (World Food Programme) under UN release don warn say food wahala dey deep for Nigeria and 15 other countries wey dem call hunger hotspots, wey fit push millions more into famine or risk of famine. Di report cover November 2025 to May 2026, talk say for 14 out of 16 hotspots, conflict and violence na di main reason for hunger. FAO-WFP warn say time dey run out to prevent widespread starvation, because conflict, economic shocks, extreme weather, and lack of funding dey make di matter worse. Six countries dey highest concern: Haiti, Mali, Palestine, South Sudan, Sudan, Yemen; six more countries wey dey very high concern: Afghanistan, DRC, Myanmar, Nigeria, Somalia, Syria; and four others na Burkina Faso, Chad, Kenya, and Rohingya refugees for Bangladesh.
Di report add say funding dey critically short, only $10.5 billion out of $29 billion wey dem need don reach, wey dey cripple emergency response, reduce food access, and force ration cuts for refugees and displaced people. Critical nutrition and school feeding programs don stop for some countries, putting children, refugees, and displaced families at extreme risk. FAO talk say without urgent funding, agricultural support like seeds, livestock health services, and anticipatory action no go reach communities, wey go increase future crises risk. WFP and FAO urge international community, governments, and donors to act fast, make sure humanitarian access dey unblocked for conflict areas, and invest in livelihoods, resilience, and social protection.
