Lagos CP Vow To Rebuild Police–Youth Trust

Di Commissioner of Police for Lagos State Command, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, don reaffirm say di command go continue to build better relationship wit young people through constant dialogue, community partnership and empowerment programmes. Jimoh yarn dis one on Thursday during di closing ceremony of di 2025 Police–Youth Dialogue Programme wey Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development organise for Alausa, Ikeja. Di event, wey carry di theme “The Power of Partnership: Cultural Trust and Understanding Between Youth and Law Enforcement Agencies,” bring police officers, youth reps, civil society groups and government officials together. Jimoh describe young people as di “mirror of society” and talk say dem get strong role to play for shaping policy and holding institutions accountable. He highlight initiatives like appointing information officers across all area commands, expanding gender units to protect women and children, and announce new move, “Bail is Free,” as he share complimentary cards wey carry im signature to guarantee free bail services for all police divisions.

Jimoh urge young people to sabi di law so friction between dem and police go reduce, as he talk say partnership no be slogan but active dialogue, respect and adaptability. He add say di programme reflect Lagos State vision for proactive community policing wey go build trust, accountability and security for Nigeria commercial centre. For im own remarks, former Lagos Commissioner for Environment, Dr Muiz Banire (SAN), call for deliberate efforts to rebuild trust between youths and law enforcement as he blame di strained relationship on abuse of power, stereotyping, poor communication and economic hardship. Banire suggest reforms like creating Youth–Police Advisory Councils, regular dialogue sessions, civic education and better welfare for police officers. He even recommend make dem rename Nigeria Police Force to Nigeria Police Service to show say policing na service, no be intimidation, as he insist say when youth energy and police shield join hand, society go strong well-well.
