Di Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Lagos State chapter, don throw full support behind di ongoing strike by di Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) wey dey fight against poor pay and bad welfare conditions. Di Lagos NMA accuse Federal Government say dem neglect doctors and fail to fix di worsening condition for tertiary hospitals. Chairman of Lagos NMA, Dr. Babajide Saheed, talk say government don refuse to fulfill agreements wey dem reach with NARD despite many meetings and warnings. According to am, di refusal of FG to meet NARD’s 19-point demand and di Minister of Health failure to engage with NARD leaders na clear sign of negligence. E warn say if FG no act fast, di strike fit scatter di already weak health system for Nigeria.
Dr. Saheed call on di Federal Government to meet NARD demands sharp sharp to avoid total collapse of tertiary healthcare and restore public trust. E also warn hospital managements make dem no try punish or threaten any doctor wey join di strike, say any form of harassment go meet strong resistance. “Any attempt to intimidate or harass our members go face serious response,” e talk. Di NMA chairman say di Lagos branch dey stand solidly with all doctors across Nigeria wey dey suffer poor welfare and government wahala. E beg FG to go back to di negotiation table quick quick before patients for public hospitals suffer more. Resident doctors don suspend work for 91 hospitals across di country because of unpaid arrears, delay in allowances and poor welfare. NARD President, Dr. Muhammad Suleiman, talk say FG still owe doctors and health workers around ₦38 billion allowances wey dem never pay.
