US Hammer Nigeria With 12.5% Tariff! Say Labour Law Enforcement No Strong Enough

Di Office of di United States Trade Representative don announce say America don place 12.5 per cent tariff on goods wey Nigeria dey export enter di US, according to statement wey dem release on Thursday.

Washington tok say dem take dis decision after Section 301 investigation because Nigeria no dey effectively enforce laws wey ban goods made with forced labour, as part of new trade policy wey affect 60 economies.

Di US Trade Representative explain say di policy aim to encourage countries strengthen dia labour law enforcement and stop forced labour products from entering international markets.

Under di new arrangement, Nigeria go pay di full 12.5 per cent tariff, while countries like India, Mexico and di United Kingdom go pay lower 10 per cent because dem meet di required labour standards.
