Dis move na to make democracy strong for grassroots level by giving councillors financial independence from local government chairmen wey be di executive arm. Di resolution, wey Hon. Sani Okanlawon lead, show say di current arrangement wey local government lawmakers dey depend on chairmen for money no good at all. According to Okanlawon, dis kind system no allow separation of power and e make councillors dey under pressure from executive people. Because of dis, Lagos Assembly don order their Committee on Local Government Administration make dem start to prepare one bill wey go give local government legislative arm money power, wey mean dem go dey independent to run dia work.
Speaker of di House, Rt Hon Mudashiru Obasa, wey lead di plenary session, also raise another issue. E talk say some past local government chairmen still dey control money for di councils even after dem don leave office. E say make dem take action to stop dis kind wahala. Other lawmakers like Solomon Bonu, Desmond Elliot, and Akinsanya Nureni support di motion. Dem all agree say without financial freedom, councillors no fit govern well or dey independent for decision-making.
