Lagos Assembly Go Spend N4.5 Billion Buy 50KVA Gen for Lawmakers

One review of the Lagos State approved budget for 2025 don reveal say the Lagos State House of Assembly dey plan to spend N4.5 billion to buy forty 50KVA generators. According to wetin dey inside the budget document, the project description talk say: “Purchase and installation of forty 50 KVA Generators.” E never clear why dem wan buy forty generators, but as the House get 40 members, people dey reason say maybe each lawmaker go get one. Based on calculation, each generator go cost around N90.7 million. Before now, the same Lagos Assembly plan spend N6.2 billion to buy 40 properties for Lagos and Abuja, but dem no talk wetin exactly the properties go be used for. So far, N1 billion don already comot between January and June for those properties matter. Meanwhile, even after Lagos Assembly spend N45 billion between 2023 and 2024 to buy official and backup vehicles, dem still budget another N20.6 billion for more vehicles in 2025. The past allocations cover backup cars, utility vehicles, and official rides. Records show say N30.194 billion enter am for 2023, N15 billion for 2024, and now N20.6 billion dey budgeted for 2025. If dem spend am complete, total wey go don enter cars alone for the lawmakers between 2023 and 2025 go reach N65 billion.

Dem also allocate N30.3 billion for “new fence, access road, landscaping and beautification,” while rehabilitation of the Assembly complex including gatehouses, prayer complex, car park, and leisure centre go cost N11.041 billion. Meanwhile, allegations of financial mismanagement and corruption still dey trail the Assembly. One coalition group, Lagos State Anti-Corruption Coalition, don submit petition to EFCC, ask make dem investigate how dem take use N17 billion for just building gate for the Assembly. For the petition, one youth group wey dem call Progressive Youth Movement accuse the Speaker say he award N469 million contract to Orgnitek Consult Limited to build Ikeja Local Government Secretariat, claim say na the company dem use do fraud runs. Dem also talk say the Speaker approve N200 million for thanksgiving event wey suppose no cost pass N2 million.
