Police don arrest one 20-year-old woman wey her name na Maryam Atiku for Kamba, Dandi Local Government Area for Kebbi State, as she allegedly try kill her newborn baby girl by burying am alive. According to wetin police talk for statement wey CSP Nafiu Abubakar release on Wednesday, di incident happen on June 25, 2025, when Maryam tie her baby neck with wrapper, cover her mouth, and bury am for shallow grave inside Malam Yaro bush. Na di next day, June 26, one farmer, Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad, wey dey work for him farm near di area notice say ground dey somehow like fresh grave. As e raise alarm, people for nearby come join am dig di place and dem shock say di baby still dey alive. Dem rush di pikin go General Hospital, Kamba, and doctors talk say di baby dey stable after dem treat am.
Police from State CID later arrest Maryam and she gree say na she do di act when dem question am. Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Sani, talk say na wickedness and e dey totally unacceptable, and he remind people say di police no go ever gree for child abuse or violence wey dey affect women and children. He beg parents, guardians, and community heads make dem protect children and no allow poverty or pressure push dem do bad thing. Di CP come hail di Kebbi First Lady, Hajiya Zainab Nasir Idris, for di support wey she give to di rescued baby, and also thank Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad for di quick help wey save di baby life.
